How does the LightSheer Diode Laser System work?
In the past, the usual remedies for unwanted hair were plucking, shaving or electrolysis. Some are painful; some are messy and most are temporary. A laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light. The light is well absorbed by the pigment located in hair follicles. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to vaporize the pigment, disabling numerous follicles at a time to eliminate or significantly impede the hair’s re-growth.

Types of Hair Growth LaserSheer Removal Our laser, the Lumenis Light Sheer, has a special contact-cooling hand piece called the ChillTip, which is perfect for sensitive skin. It protects and cools the upper layer of the skin before, during and after each pulse thus directing the laser energy to the hair root. The combination of this aggressive skin cooling and other key laser parameters allows safe and effective treatment of all skin types.

The hair has 3 phases of hair growth as follows:
Anagen – is the active growth phase. During this phase, the hair contains an abundance of melanin
Catagen – is the regression phase. During this phase the lower part of the hair stops growing.
Telogen- is the resting phase. During this phase the old hair falls out with the preparation for the development of the new hair.
The laser works when the hair is in the anagen phase.

What advantages does the LightSheer have over other laser hair removal systems?
The LightSheer Diode Laser System was designed from the ground up for laser hair removal. It has the wavelength, fluence, pulse width and active epidermal cooling system, called the ChillTip ideally suited for laser hair removal. It is the state-of-the-art laser hair removal machine. Lumenis who manufactures the LightSheer has been in business for more than 30 years.

Is the treatment permanent?
The FDA has approved our laser for permanent hair reduction. Once a hair follicle has been destroyed, it cannot grow back. In order for the treatments to be effective you would have to complete a series of treatments depending upon your skin type.

How is laser hair removal different from electrolysis?
Electrolysis is a tedious, invasive and painful process that involves inserting a needle into each hair follicle and delivering an electrical charge to destroy them one at a time. Electrolysis often requires years of treatments at regular intervals. Electrolysis kills one hair follicle at a time. The LightSheer diode laser delivers light energy non-invasively to hundreds of hair follicles at a time. So, in a few minutes, LightSheer laser can effectively treat an area that would take over an hour with electrolysis. Patient’s who have had both procedures say that Laser Hair Removal is less painful, faster and more convenient.

Is the treatment safe?
Yes, the laser beam has been carefully designed for selective destruction of hair follicles with no damage to the surrounding skin.

Does the treatment hurt?
One of the benefits of laser hair removal is that it is virtually painless, especially compared with waxing or electrolysis. For the occasional patient who experiences discomfort with the LightSheer Laser Hair Removal we prescribe a Novocain type of topical cream, which should be applied 1 hour prior to treatment. This helps minimize discomfort. The LightSheer has a cooling tip, which also cools your skin during treatment. Each person’s pain tolerance is different and most people may feel nothing at all. If necessary, a topical cream is used.

How is the appearance of the treated area after the treatment?
The appearance of the treated area immediately after the laser session will vary from client to client depending on the extent of the treatment and the skin type. Immediate after effects, if any, are minor. They may include redness and swelling, which disappears in a short time. Most people return to normal activity right away. Occasionally crusting or pigment changes, which are temporary, can develop.

Are there any pre-treatment restrictions?
Yes, the following should be avoided prior to treatment: Please shave area 12 hours prior to treatment. The follicle beneath the skin contains the melanin that the laser targets; thus, waxing, plucking and electrolysis should be avoided for 3 weeks prior to treatments. Avoid sun tanning to the area treated. Discuss any skin diseases you might have.

Who performs the laser hair removal?
Licensed medically supervised estheticians. They are certified in laser hair removal.

How many treatments do I need?
Hair growth goes through three growth phases: active growth (which represents 20% of all hair), regression and resting. The laser is most effective in the treatment of follicles that are in the active growth phase at which there is an abundance of melanin, which the laser targets. Since different hair is in different growth phases, more than one treatment may be required to remove hair follicles.
People with skin types 1-4 need 6 treatments to maximally benefit from the laser hair treatment.
People with skin types 5-6 need 8 treatments to maximally benefit from the laser hair treatment.
The intervals between treatments are approximately 4 weeks.

What skin type am I and how will it effect to the amount of treatments I will need?
Your skin type is based on the following:
  • Type 1 always burn and never tans
  • Type 2 usually burns and tans less than average
  • Type 3 sometimes mildly burns and tans above average
  • Type 4 rarely burns and tans more than average
  • Type 5 very rarely burns and tans easily
  • Type 6 does not burn and tans easily
- Skin types 1-4 usually take a package of 6 laser hair treatments to effectively get the job done.
- Skin types 5-6 usually take a package of 8 laser hair treatments to effectively get the job done.

Is the treatment effective for all skin types?
Yes. The FDA has approved the laser used by Affordable Laser Hair Removal as safe and effective for all skin types.

Depending on the amount of hair and the size of the area being treated, the sessions can vary from a few minutes to an hour.

How does the written guarantee work?
If you choose to purchase the package of treatments, which includes 6 or 8 treatments depending on your skin type, then you are eligible for our 2-year written guarantee. But we do offer monthly payment plans.
The 2-year written guarantee starts after your first treatment. In order for the guarantee to be in effect, you must perform all your treatments in your treatment package and never longer than an 8 week interval between treatments.
The guarantee is that if any hair re-grows in the area treated within 2 years of the first treatment you will be able to get additional treatments for free.

What are the other methods of removing hair?
In the past, the usual remedies for unwanted hair were plucking, shaving, chemical depilatories, waxing, or electrolysis. Some are painful, some are messy, and all are only temporary except electrolysis. However, there are other issues associated with electrolysis.
  • SHAVING- Shaving is the most common method of hair removal. Virtually everyone owns a razor, but shaving only lasts a few days and requires a constant commitment to maintain a hair-free appearance. It only removes hair slightly above the surface of the skin.
  • PLUCKING-Plucking has slightly longer results than shaving, but it is quite painful. Plucking is tedious and impractical
  • CHEMICAL DEPALITORIES- Another short-term method, which is extremely, time consuming, as the cream must remain applied until the hair is fully dissolved. Many people find that the cream has an unpleasant odor and that the process is very messy
  • WAXING-Lasting up to 6 to 8 weeks, this method removes hair from the follicle bed, but does not destroy the follicle itself. Therefore, the hair does re-grow. Some find this method painful and it can cause skin irritation and pimples. Additionally, waxing may also distort the hair follicles and make other hair removal techniques more difficult
  • ELECTROLYSIS- A procedure which involves passing an electric current through the follicle, which damages some follicle beds. However, it can be painful, time consuming and expensive as each hair follicle must be treated separately. Multiple treatments lasting months to years are necessary because true damage can only be inflicted to the hair follicles during the growth phase of their life cycle. Fifty percent of hairs treated re-grow after each treatment. Because the electrode must be inserted subcutaneously into each follicle, there is a risk of infection.
What areas can be treated?
Lasers can help eliminate hair from just about anywhere on the body. Here are a few of the areas from which to have hair removed:
- Women: upper lip, cheeks, neck, under arms, forearms, bikini line, legs and abdomen.
- Men: Face, neck, shoulders, upper arms, hands, chest, abdomen, back, buttocks, legs, and feet.

What about the different hair types?
Humans have 4 distinct hair types:
- Eyebrows and eyelashes
- Axillary (under arm) & lower pubic hair
- Upper pubic, facial, ear, extremities, body hair
- Scalp hair

All types respond differently to natural hormones occurring in different amounts in both men and women. Not all hair is visible on the surface of your skin. Hair growth goes between active and resting stages. On your head, above 90% of your hair is in the active growing stage that can last up to 7 years. The growing cycle of your body hair lasts only for a few months and as much as 30% of your hair is in the resting stage. This explains why you most likely need more than one treatment for removal of hair on back, chest and legs.

My girlfriend called me a bear, is laser hair removal for men?
Surprisingly, a lot of our patients are men. After receiving treatment they are very happy and refer others to our offices. Laser hair removal for men is a popular solution for excessive hair on back, chests and legs. Many athletic men enjoy the benefits of laser hair removal as a way to achieve better athletic results.

Unwanted hair in the nose and the ears can also give you that added confidence you so much desired. Additionally, men who have gained a level of fitness and muscle tone don’t want to hide their attractive muscles behind a thick coating of hair.

Why does the hair sometimes look like its growing 1-3 weeks after laser treatment?
Laser destroys hair roots, which are active at the time of treatment, but do not remove hair shafts instantly. Hair shafts in the treated hair follicles will fall out mostly in the first week after treatment, with all the treated hairs falling out within 2-3 weeks. It is normal that some hairs in the treated areas may not fall within 2-3 weeks. These will be treated in the next session. These hairs, which are being shed, will come out on their own. It is best not to shave the treated area or wash it with anything but mild soap and your bare hands (no washcloths or Body Washes) for 3-4 days after laser treatment. This might cause the skin to get irritated.

Are there any restrictions on my activity after treatment?
Since the laser does not burn or cut the skin in any way, no bandages are necessary. You can return to work the same day and resume all your regular activities. To reduce the chance of uneven tanning in the treated areas, you should minimize sun exposure and tanning for a week or two after treatments.
It is OK to resume shaving or clipping hair in the treated area after 3-4 days. You should NOT have waxing, plucking or electrolysis, because these things will temporary remove pigmented hairs from the hair roots and reduce the effectiveness of your next laser treatment. Sometimes after plucking, waxing the hair will become thicker and darker, because one of the ways that the body defends itself from chronic irritation is to produce thicker, darker hairs.
Shaving is really the BEST temporary way to remove unwanted hair before laser treatment and between laser treatments. Shaving leaves the hair shafts in the hair follicles, so the hair shaft can be a target for laser energy, heat up and kill the hair follicle.

I want information about the Luminous Light Sheer Diode Laser machine?
Light Sheer Diode Laser from Coherent Medical Group is a world leader in research and development of medical lasers. Light Sheer is the number one in the state-of-the-art laser technology for hair removal and provides safe and effective removal of unwanted hair from persons of most skin types and skin colors. This is one of the only lasers that the FDA has allowed to make the claim of “permanent hair reduction.”

Am I a good candidate for laser hair removal?
The unique design of the Light Sheer Luminous Diode and the long wavelengths, allow treatment of people with all skin colors, and even treatment of even light brown hair. Because hair which is naturally blonde, light red, or white does not have enough pigments in the roots. A smaller number of treatments are needed when the hair is dark and the skin is light colored. So to get the maximum effect from each session avoid tanning. But people who even have black skin can be successfully treated with Luminous Diode Light Sheer Laser Hair Removal equipment.
Luminous Light Sheer Diode laser hair device is not just for clients that have cosmetic problems. Clients with excess hair because of medications can benefit from the Luminous Light Sheer Diode Laser hair removal system as can client who have problems with ingrown hair and follicles under the prosthetic devices.
Many people at some time before the laser hair treatment will have fears and doubts. A common concern is that they are being vain. My experience has been that just about all clients who have laser hair removal are no vainer than anyone else. What distinguishes them is a desire to get the most out of life. Looking after our appearance is not a fault. After all would you leave your house with broken gutters or peeling paint? Why does less to your body? I think you should feel proud of yourself of having the courage to want to change something that you find unacceptable. I emphasize that you should only have laser hair removal if it is for you. It is a big mistake to have lesser hair removal if it is just for somebody else.
